are various types of certification bodies which operate
in a number of different areas. Certification bodies
have to be accredited to be recognised as being competent
to issue quality and environmental management system
certificates to organisations. Other certifications
bodies are accredited as being technically competent
to certify products. Personnel certification bodies
are accredited as being competent to qualify personnel
in particular skills such as welding. Certification
bodies can also be accredited to certify service providers
issuing electronic signatures.
Accreditation of these certification bodies is based
on compliance with the criteria related to the specific
subject area.
