A
notified body is a third party authorised to perform
the conformity assessment tasks specified in the relevant
EU directive. It is appointed by a Member State and
must have the necessary qualifications and meet the
requirements laid down in the directive. It is essential
that notified bodies operate with a proven high level
of competence, integrity and professionalism. To ensure
this,
Legal
Notice No. 136 of 2003 establishes
that conformity assessment bodies which are willing
to be appointed as notified bodies must become accredited.
A list of areas in which conformity
assessment bodies operate as notified bodies can be
found on the MSA website, more specifically
here.
Application forms for the accreditation of notified
bodies may be found in the
downloads section.
